"to be a gentle mover in a swiftly spinning world. To be present. To extract the poetry. To only entertain the real. To Listen. To seek the genuine. To stand inside of the stretch, the momentum, the tall discomfort of change, the knowing that you don't need to rush the practice or ever fake a force a thing. To believe in the rhythm and movement. To trust in the river, the song, the stillness, the storm and the seed. This is my religion." v.erickson "The goal is to create space where you were once stuck. To unveil the layers of protections you've built about your heart. To appreciate your body and become aware of the mind and the noise it creates. To make peace with who you are. The goal is to love, well.... You. Come to your yoga mat to feel; not to accomplish. Shift your focus and your heart will grow. ~r.brathen |
Nearly two decades of yoga practice have shown me the profound wisdom captured in these quotes, which extend beyond yoga to the art of creation. There's a strong connection - both are methods of communication, of listening, of self-acknowledgment. In our modern yoga culture, authenticity and the spirit of the practice matter more than poses or appearances, and we should be wary of elements that negatively influence students. If any teacher speaks towards an environmental of pressure to achieve, or shows dismissal of concerns, then they do not value the student. We cannot be fooled by "group think" or status. It would be easy to fall for the same in creating, to whatever the trends display. But as in a more healthy yoga practice we go beyond metrics, avoiding the allure of a fan club and always nurturing a unique inner journey. Both of these endeavors should emphasize the importance of presence and authenticity, remembering the the value of connection to who we are and where we can find our focus, our Drishti.

She can be a riddle, wrapped in an enigma, inside a conundrum, rolled in a frito burrito, in other words, a total freaking mystery to anyone who isn't gifted with mind-reading abilities." m.makai shhh. I'm seducing the world with my weirdness." d.pearce "as clear as mud, couldn't have said it better myself." tmb In the realm of abstract photographic art, the absence of color gives rise to a world of exploration. The artist navigates textures, shapes, light and patterns to convey emotion and narrative, blurring the lines between reality and imagination. We know this element of confusion as an essential part of the artistic process - a catalyst for exploration and discovery, and hope to inspire viewers to engage with the work on an intimate, personal level. Within this delicate balance of technique and intuition, a truly unique vision emerges, captivating in it's own way, As we can see and metaphorically contemplate, there is much to study in the mystique of it all. "see how the shadows enhanced by the light above, Dance in the night as the breezes sigh Soon you will be asleep Into your dreams will creep Visions of fairies flyin' through the sky And, one by one, your dreams will all come true, Magic you'll behold, yes Don't feel bad because the sun went down.....The moon is made of gold." -ricky lee jones moonlight wishes always seem to hold more magic. ~ tmb When the world slumbers, a special kind of artistic inspiration awakens beneath the stars and moon, an ethereal connection with the artist's soul. The night sky, a glowing moon offers an escape beyond the limits of the earthly realm. In the solitude of darkness, my imagination dances freely. The silence makes meditation easier. And In the solitude of darkness, my imagination dances freely. you are waiting for the spring to grow but with autumn, you are learning the art of legging go darling, the growth as already begun. ~ belle Autumn is beautiful and here on the east coast remains comfortable for a few months. The earth colors change do trigger me to forecast forward tho, anxiety rising as the hectic holidays draw near. But amidst the fading leaves of autumn, the sense of loss opens a doorway to reflection and introspection. It grants an opportunity to re-imagine the "scenery". "show me the most damaged parts of your soul, and I will show you how it still shines like gold." ~nikika gill there are days, and those nights, where there are no words that will express the thoughts or feelings, or there is no energy left, or maybe there is just too much hurt to handle for the time being, but still when we create in any way to express such feelings, whether through visual arts, writing, music or movement it is all a voice of spirit and soul. ... a representation in color and composition of the multitude of emotions or thoughts, the drain of remaining energies, the fraying of form, yet an acknowledgment of layers and the beauty each holds. Often times inspirations come from others, and if I'm so lucky as to have a conversation about the creative process or method or idea, a part of my mind buzzing with electricity trying to retain whatever was gleaned, filing away key points, while other parts are already formulating forms, color schemes, compositions, etc., etc,. etc.
But then as something arrives in view, on the lens or canvas, and as the magnetic draw to the work zone is entered, it becomes a completely solitary experience. I have found that the ability to multitask, even to perform a mundane task for thousandth time, is not only deliberately delayed but has decided to leave the room on it's own until further notice. Grateful for all community who share their genius and imagination. And for the solitude to hear and sing my own song. ~ tmb While I still often strive to find the "right" words, there has been a new found embrace for throwing my hands up. Finding that since I'm more seasoned (and jaded), with events seeming to pound us everyday with levels of absurdity never before witnessed, I will take the time to escape. One would think, and it does surprise me often, that the expression of my art on those days would offer frustration or anger, yet there is a draw to the soft. Maybe it's a dream, or a hope, I don't know. But I'll admit it is a default expression often, along with yoga or music.
